pretty good taste (i like to think lol). does this sound like a good
or halfway decent movie review? be as honest as you can for ten
points. thanks.
Mr. Popper's Penguins. Rating: 2/5 stars.
It's that time of year again, folks- school's out and many children
are free to do whatever they please for a long time. This might
include floating around the house doing nothing, and Hollywood knows
this. That is why they created the "family film" – something
easy and time-consuming to occupy kids during the long summer months.
Their latest effort, Mr. Popper's Penguins, will do just that, but
adults beware: you might find shelling peanuts more exciting.
Mr. Popper is the tale of workaholic father Thomas Jr. (Jim Carrey),
who brings his family together with the help of some arctic birds:
Captain, Loudy, Stinky, Lovey,
The film is appallingly cliche, and everything plays out exactly as
you would expect it to. Carrey's signature slapstick performance is a
highlight of the film, and there are a few funny lines here and there.
Ophelia Lovibond is delightful as Pippa, Popper's assistant, who
somehow starts every word she speaks with a "p." However, too
many fart jokes and a bland storyline isn't able to do the beloved
childrens' book justice.
